WAXPOL 460 Oil and its utility as a Base Lube Oil for formulating Engine Oils and other Industrial Lubricants

The Base Lube Oil plays a major role in formulating Engine Oils as well as different grades of Industrial Lubricants. The following characteristics of the Base Oils are important:

i) Viscosity Temperature Relation
For formulating a Multi-Grade Engine Oil, we need a base oil with a minimum change of viscosity with either rise or fall of temperature. Normally a Paraffinic base lube oil possesses the natural characteristic of having a flat curve, i.e., high Viscosity Index value.

However, to ask for a fully paraffinic base lube oil is a costly affair and uneconomic for an oil formulator. The problem is circumvented by incorporating in the base lube oil a suitable V.I. Improver to have the desired property.

Waxpol 460 Oil has taken care of this aspect during processing of this oil. A carefully selected V.I. Improver of proper molecular weight, solubility and dosage, after extensive R & D work, is incorporated in Waxpol 460 oil to have a Viscosity Index Value of 113 (typical) in the finished oil.

ii) Low Consumption Characteristics:
The key performance feature of an engine oil readily visible to the motorist or truck driver is its control of its own consumption. If oil consumption is high it is soon noticed by dip stick checks. Control of oil consumption is more important now-a-days apart from cost factor, because of its possible adverse effect on exhaust emissions from environmental aspects.

The high Flash Point of Waxpol 460 Oil ( 236 degree C), low Volatility value combined with high V.I. value makes it a good base lube oil for formulating Engine Oils and other Industrial Oils.
